I just came from a lab which had an amazing work environment, we had lunch together everyday and even went out sometimes. Now I moved countries, so I am in a new lab where I don't know anyone besides work. And in my 1st day I realize the lab is pretty small, it's just me an my PI so far, 2 more girls will arrive.

So far I've been working all day alone in the office and eating lunch alone. This sucks tbh. How can I better survive in a new country in such a bad work environment? I checked for postdoc clubs but my building has none, only on the main campus which is 15 min away and sometimes they seem to have events.

Additionally, seems like everything is virtual nowadays, institutional events which used to allow to meet colleagues are all remote.

Does anyone have any tips?
