Hello I work at TJ’s on Powell and I want to air out how the covid situation went down at the store. It all started on the 18th. If you worked there you’d usually go downstairs to put your stuff in a cubby then start your shift. That day you’d go down and see a stack of at home covid tests (bought by employees, not provided my tj’s). I pry a lil bit and the assistant manager tells me that some employees tested positive yesterday (the 17th) and they said they were told not to tell anyone. Looking at the work chat the manager sent a message about how how employees tested positive the day before so he was sending the message as a courtesy to anyone who wanted to get tested (very kind but also a day late). Multiple people replied telling him that people should should get tested first before coming in but they didn’t get a reply. After pleas from employees to close until everyone got tested and our hesitancy to sell product to medical patients went unheard, we continued business as usual in fear of possibly losing our job so close to the holidays. By the time the 19th rolled around the store still opened but closed early so they could get as much money as possible before actually allowing employees to get tested. Not because they came their senses but because two more employees tested positive including the manager. Hr would tell you they went through the process as expected of a store that employs close to 20 people including contacting people that may of come in contact with infected employees. ask anyone that works there and they’d tell you there was no such communication and the first they had heard about it was the 18th because of the managers message in the work chat. The whole situation has been handled as a joke by the manager and the higher ups. I ask anyone who bought from tj’s on Powell and interacted with the employees in the week leading up to the 17th get tested. Be safe everyone.
