Alot of talk the last few days that Caitlin Clark only makes $75k a year as a WNBA rookie, when the average NBA rookie makes about 10 million. However the popularity and revenue of these sports are not comparable.
- *NBA average attendance: 18,324
- *NBA revenue: 10 billion
- *WNBA average attendance: 9,551
- *WNBA revenue: appx 200 million, but the league is completely subsidized by the NBA team in the city, it does not make a profit on its own.
So what you have is a league that as of now completely relies on a profitable league to even exist, the players in this league are not going to be paid like the players who actually create revenue on their own.
I've had the experience of watching a NBA game after a wnba game, both in person in a stadium. The WNBA felt like a game between two high schools that both sucked equally.
At the top level, mens sports are more explosive, energetic and violent that women's sports feel underwhelming. Relatively speaking as someone who's highest sports achievement was running at my school level lol.
Lots of talk about paying the players their 'fair share' when honestly the league would not even exist at the level it does without the NBA subsidizing it the way it does.
