I was relistening to Cardi's B singles since Invasion of Privacy and it seems like the rollout for her second album has been pushed back several times. IOP came out April 2018 and was followed by Money in October 2018, Please Me in February 2019 and Press in May 2019. As these songs were so soon after IOP, I assume that they weren't from a planned album at the time but rather buzz singles. WAP came out of nowhere in August 2020, followed by Up in February 2021, both of which went Number 1 in the US and were likely the start of the release of CB2. However, in September that year, she gave both to her second child and that likely delayed the album. Since then, she has released 2 singles as the lead artist, Hot Shit in July 2022 and Bongos in September 2023, neither of which cracked the top 10 or had much longevity. Now, it seems that Cardi B is comfortable being a singles artist but it is unusual how little material she has released since IOP. Compare her to Megan Thee Stallion who has released 2 EPs, 1 mixtape and 2 albums since IOP (while being in a legal battle with her label) and Nicki Minaj who has released 1 (soon to be 2) albums, reissued an mixtape and a whole host of singles (while getting married and having a child) since IOP. Do you know of any interesting examples of cancelled or delayed album rollouts?
