Firstly this is not for having a heated debate but rather just sharing thoughts.

I became interested in what the consensus was, on straight people writing gay characters in novels.

I was also aware of the discussion about film&tv where the tide is turning such that people want queer characters played by queer actors and minority actors for minority characters.

Then there was the discussion of whether Brendan Fraser was large enough to play his character in The Whale. Most people didn't have a problem, but fat suits remain contentious.

What are your thoughts on identity representation in music, tv, film and books?
