Screen turns black after logging in following update to 20.10 issue

Hi all,

Yesterday I have encountered the same issue described in this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/pop_os/comments/lmiwr1/problems_in_upgrading_to_2010/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

Ran a couple of update and upgrade commands after that and everything seemed to be fine.

Today I come back to my machine and cannot get past the login screen, as after I enter my password it just turns black and I can't do anything else.

I couldn't find any other similar issue around, and while recovery mode seems to be working fine I don't really want to do a fresh install. Any help is appreciated.
