A little context: I've made some improvements to the Pop Launcher and am now working on a new launcher plugin that would add quite a bit of flexibility for builders, scripters, and tweakers, without their having to write any Rust code.
I'm curious what you would want the Pop Launcher to do, if you could improve it or change it however you like? I'm looking for specific examples, both (1) use cases and (2) user interface. Your responses will help give me ideas or guide the suggestions I make to the System76 team with regard to the Pop Launcher.
(1) Example Use Cases
As an example of specific use cases:
- I'd love to be able to search my Google address book contacts via the Pop Launcher. When I activate a contact, I'd like it to open the Contacts app to my chosen contact.
- I'd like to be able to press Ctrl C to copy the result of a calculator value to an email message, rather than "activate" the calculated value with Enter (which currently doesn't do anything, I believe). I'd also like to be able to press Ctrl C to copy the filepath result of a find
search to the clipboard, so I can use it in the Terminal app.
(2) Example User Interface Improvements
As an example of specific UI to compare, here is Alfred, a Mac OS-based launcher that I used to use. I think it's beautiful, and I would like the Pop Launcher UI to maybe copy these UI aspects from Alfred: - narrower margins, like Alfred, so more information can be shown - add a "preview" area to the right of the list for images, and potentially other media like songs or videos
What Use Cases or User Interface Improvements would serve you most?
