What’s the best little trick you’ve learned that helps take care of your pool

I just discovered that skimmer socks let my Polaris go about 5x longer before the screen clogs, despite it having a dedicated filter. This has allowed it to keep the dust and pollen kicked up more reliably off the bottom of the pool, which has resulted in much easier maintenance at the cost of 25 cents per sock.
Now I’m wondering what other little tricks I can do that may help out even more!
