I am trying to share positive poly anecdotes, so we can outnumber the "what do you mean we are unicorn hunters" posts.
I have a number of minor to severe combat related injuries. One of the ones we only recently discovered is some bony overgrowth from a fractured mandible. It is under my tongue and is at least partly responsible for my sleep apnea.
So today I had my appointment to have those bones cut/drilled/filed out. Honestly, I am more than a little terrified of dentists. So this was a big deal for me. Not only do I despise the dentist (full on flop sweat panic attack level), but I can't do pain any more. I'm in pain 24/7 so the neuroplasticity has me hypersensitive to pain.
Boyfriend called the dentist this morning to warn them, and then this sweet boy took a half day off work so he could drive me the one mile to my appointment. When I went back he went out and drove for a half hour to get me the cream of chicken soup I like, vanilla pudding, and freezer pops.
Short Wife explained to the kids that I was having a doctor appointment and they made me get well cards. I thought Rory (4yo) drew me a picture of us playing. It's monkeys, because monkeys are funny and don't have to go to the dentist. Amy (3yo) loaned me her stuffy pig to snuggle, and we are watching Clone Wars.
Tall Wife arranged my pills and set reminders and has promised to hold me and give me a massage to take my mind off things as soon as she gets off work. I am more than half hoping there is a happy ending in there.
I know it's silly and probably more than a little bit of vicodin, but this is what it means to be supported. We still fight and struggle and but when one of us needs something the entire family pulls together to support each other.
