Post Body

Hello, I and my husband are new to this, and have decided to open our marriage. What is the difference between poly lifestyle and open marriage?

Thank you.

Polyamory is an agreement between partners that each is free to have other romantic and sexual partners. It is unrelated to marriage. Someone might be married to one of their partners or not married to anyone. And since you can only marry one person, they may be married to one romantic partner and have other non-spouse romantic partners.

An open marriage is a marriage between two people that is open for sex, romance or both. It can cover all kinds of different agreements. Each agreement is a little different. So you have to ask the two people who made the agreement.

Its best to ask for and explain things in plain language.

Like: open for group sex and threesomes together with no romance. Or open for sex and romance with others. Open for sex on business travel only. Open for sex workers only. Open for swinging together only.
