Post Body

So here we go again with the r4rposting. I feel I've been here long enough now that anyone who'd be interested has already met me.

Who am I? Poly, pan, 35 but mentally stuck in the early 2000s, compulsive Devilā€™s Advocate (arguing is fun!), survivor of the goth kid trend (how could we have been so cringe?), late diagnosis aspie, excessive rapid-fire talker, 2000AD zealot (ask me for my opinion of DC/Marvel heroes, I dare you), jack of all trades semi-intellectual, multimedia nerd, civic nationalist, addictive user of aphorims, prone to being gooey and emotional.

Who do I like? People who are like me and read this thinking "oh yeah, this is me as well". Simple as that. I don't like having preconceptions about what I want because it's easier to just work it out as you go. When people start putting all these ā€œI want x, y and zā€ itā€™s more about them than the person theyā€™re looking for, donā€™t you think?

Whatā€™s my end goal here? Dunno really, to be honest. I guess anything between friends and a relationship is possible. I keep an open mind to possibilities. I guess I could just really do with some company now I'm in my 30's and all my friends are having kids and buying houses while I continue living like a student.

Unordered list of things that I find appealing in a person: not being judgemental, sound ethical stances, fringes, knowing all the lines to The Nightman Cometh, cheering on the Ukrainians, appreciating the wisdom of George Orwell and Pat Mills, patience, retaining your childlike sense of wonder, a bleeding heart liberal complex, knowing the Dark Tower saga lore, an ability to separate personal and important, hating on Batman for being a neo-con's wet dream, an eclectic taste in art, sharing a love of the Continent.

I much prefer the countryside to the city. The concrete jungle restricts your space, being out in the open gives you room to think. Spring is my favourite season: lambs, sunny showers, daffodills, busy little bumblebees everywhere, all that good stuff. Right now is bliss in the countryside with everything green and fresh and baby everythings around.

I'm one of those hyper-organised people. I run my personal projects like work ones with trackers and logbooks and detailed to-do lists. I don't understand how else you're meant to deal with the overload of all the shit you need to do as an adult. Anyone get me on that?

I've had a computer since I was 4, so I spend tons of time on them. Everything from the old Amiga system to the Playstation to my PCMR rig. Favourite games series are Resident Evil, Doom, WipEout, Final Fantasy, Total War, Mass Effect, Sonic, Crash Bandicoot, Cannon Fodder and Micro Machines. I'm teaching myself modding in the Source engine as well, which is something I never thought I'd get the hang of, but is surprisingly logical.

Reading wise I'm split between historical non-fiction (mostly conflict history) and sci-fi. Stuff like King's Dark Tower series, Neuromancer, Snow Crash, Dune and Iain M Banks "Culture" series. Fantasy is something I struggle to engage with, but Discworld is the exception to that rule (because it's not really fantasy when you think about it, it's the real world with a fantasy mask on). Like most Discworld fans I quote it all the time and have an undying love for Sir Terry.

My main paper love is 2000AD. Itā€™s subversive and counter-cultural and so very, very Scottish (Dredd especially). British comics are a weird little niche space between the do-gooder DC/Marvel heroes and the more artsy comics you get in Europe and its glorious. I swear sometimes when I read Pat Mills work that we're time-twins separated at birth.

Politically somewhere between a socialist/anarchist and "well meaning middle class white liberal" (raise up the deprived parts of society, strong welfare state, international co-operation, etc). Would almost certainly be detained and sent for re-education by either a fascist or communist government. I can't stand right or left wing crybabies who have decided to part ways with reason and let their emotions trump reason every time. Honestly can't decide who I find more obnoxious from one day to the next, what the actual hell is happening to us as a society anyway? It's

I don't really get gender identity issues. Like, it all seems to be predicated on people getting socialised as one or t'other in a given context, but when you're an aspie you don't really get socialised at all, so I don't get it. I get it's an issue (in theory), I just don't feel it. Be what you wanna be, but don't be surprised if people don't get right away what your personal definition is.

For TV and films I go for surreal and irreverant comedy. Anything by the likes of Steve Coogan, Chris Morris, Armando Ianucci - that whole set of what people identify as "British" satirical, slightly cringy comedy. IASIP is one of my favourite shows cos it's in the same vein, and so refreshing to see in a US sitcom. Cheesy 80s and 90s action flicks are replete as well: Terminator, Aliens, Robocop, Rambo, Street Fighter et al. A good war film is always appreciated, because I cry like a bitch at heroic last stand scenes (so basically any WW2 film from the underdog perspective). I have a fondness for anime, but have a limited specific taste (mostly mecha/cyberpunk stuff like SAC, Patlabor and Appleseed); mainly what I like about it is the sharp, clean lines, like a technical drawing.

Favourite among my unpopular opinions is that "ally" culture is just a bunch of normies trying to seize control of the narrative from groups with the protected characteristics they claim to be supporting. It's like that South Park episode with the "I'm a victim too!" line. If you ain't got a dog in the fight then you don't get to have an authoritative opinion, just sit down, shut up, and listen. It is, ironically, just about the whitest behaviour ever.

I suck at drawing and painting but I'm a decent hand at image and video editing ā€“ what you might call a prosumer (a new word I didnā€™t know about til recently). I make some truly terrible video memes and somewhat artsy clip reels sometimes ā€“ I like to juxtapose things to tell stories and create a certain feeling through visuals and audio (Iā€™m a sucker for the ā€œsomething but itā€™s something elseā€ trope). Basically I'm like Seth MacFarlane or Randy Pitchford when it comes to being artistic - I can sort of create but it's always on the shoulders of something else. Whether or not that counts as art is something that bugs me every day.

I do a bit of music production and writing, all digital. Lately I've got into rearranging and revoicing MIDI packs from retro games. I don't have the co-ordination to play much more than arpeggios on a physical instrument (watching me try to play drums properly is hilarious), which is a shame because there's no sound more beautiful than a piano (Iā€™m a big fan of old Luddy Van B).

Honestly there's tons more in here but if I keep going I think the mods will add a maximum word count to posts. If you've made it this far drop me a message and let's talk.
