The theory I’ve seen bouncing around is they want to wait until the last possible moment then leave for their recess to avoid having to face scrutiny for a while. Basically the SCOTUS equivalent of putting a flaming bag of shit on the country’s doorstep, ringing the doorbell, and running away.
No matter what the decision is and regardless of whether the decision is good law or political hackery, half the country will be livid.
It’s because Roberts is a sniveling coward, who is terrified of Trump and what he’ll do if they don’t rule in his favor. Having two insurrectionists and three Trump appointees isn’t helping either, but it’s mostly Roberts dragging his feet.

Joe Biden should write an Executive Order stating as POTUS he has absolute immunity. I bet the SCOTUS will make a ruling a lot faster
