Twitter has always had a valid security certificate. I.e. the messages were sent and received over HTTPs.
Hilldawg was sending her account and password and reading message as plain text, that anyone on the net could have intercepted. While she was traveling in Asia. Then her private server didn't have any intrusion-detection systems, so they can't say no one used her account/password to sign into it. And Bill's private sketches, stored on that server, were leaked.
