Today marks 100 years since Lithuania got its independence. On this special occasion you are invited to visit a museum with exhibits representing each decade of independent (and not so much) Lithuanian life. Our tour starts on the left. Ladies and gentlemen, follow me:
- Now please direct your attention to is this painting. It truthfully and realistically portrays Lithuanian wars for independence, where one small country managed to defeat three vastly superior foes and secure its way into the bright future. Good thing those events were so straightforward and heroic, right?
- Next, we have an authentic documentary reel from the 30s, showing favorite past time of any emerging economic power: aeroplanes. Building them, flying them, and sometimes cra... well, nevermind.
- On that small cabinet you can find an illustrated book detailing the fate of Lithuania during the Second World War. By the way, cabinet itself belonged to occupied Lithuania. You don’t want to know what is inside.
- Don’t forget to take picture posing as a member of Lithuanian armed insurgence, slaying yet another filthy Soviet invader!
- Next to it you can find an old monument supposedly portraying supposed friendship and comradery of supposed Soviet Lithuania and other Soviet supposed Republics. Lithuanian ministry of Science and Education reminds you that events portrayed in this work of art may not reflect the historical truth.
- Particularly interesting piece of our exhibition is this Šilelis TV set from 1973. Just don’t let your children watch too many Soviet cartoons.
- And now we move into the 80s, with this large photo of the Baltic Way – living chain of people connecting three Baltic capitals, reminding us of unbreakable friendship between Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia!
- Also we have this very expensive basketball memorabilia from the 90s. Please don’t touch it.
- If you feel tired, sit down and watch this excellent documentary explaining steady rise of Lithuanian economy. Don’t worry, it’s quite short.
- Now, museum without a small souvenir shop is not a museum. Our shop is run by NATO, and it has best souvenirs in Lithuania. Very popular.
Oh, you didn’t expect Lithuania to let you out without boasting about its GLORIOUS PAST, didn’t you? Yes, our museum has some of that too. By the way, if you see our cleaning lady Ukraine, please tell her to clean those fingerprints of our Euroleague cup.
This exhibition is brought you by:
After the end of the tour please don't forget to share a portion of tasty Lithuanian cepelinai with your loved ones, and decorate your comment with this totally not African tricolor:
Už Lietuvą!
To shout like that, simply add two hashes (##) at the beginning of your text. Like so:

And pimp up your text using these cool Lithuanian letters Ą, Č, Ę, Ė, Š, Ž
