Tl;dr: Laid down AK on the flop with top Pair top kick, would have rivered a boat and lost to AA —

I had a decent run yesterday and this morning playing a 3-5 spread (the max bet on each street is $300, stupid WA Law). I walked up about $1400.

I play there decently often, and I have a more conservative style. I need excellent pot odds to chase and rarely get aggressive out of position. I also have a rep for rarely bluffing (but that’s because not enough people call to find out 🤷🏿‍♂️).

It was about 5 a.m. I was tired and had promised my wife I’d be home three or four hours prior, but these two Eastern European ATMs had been moved to my table, and there was no way I could leave.

The loosest player in the room those two dudes got moved over simultaneously, and I was licking my chops. If the loose dude doesn’t hit hands, he just dumps chips and can get a calling station. It turns out he dominated these dudes for this period, and he started bullying the table. It was pretty standard that it was $75-$125 on the flop. I’d been playing pretty aggressively to that point but shrunk my range so I didn’t get caught up.

After winning a few good-sized pots over a $15-minute period, I hit my target winnings and was waiting one more orbit before I left for the night (the wife gets much less angry when I come home with a pocket full of hundreds).

This angry Asian lady had been complaining about not hitting anything while playing, and everything moved a couple of seats away. Shes in for at least $3k at this point, Down to a stack of about $450-$475

I’m in the middle position, looking down at AK of Spades. I pop it to $25. Normally a solid raise, but with the way this game had been going, it was pretty small. I was waiting for a three-bet so I could hammer it.

The cutoff is one of the Eastern European ATMs/calling stations. He calls (MrBurnsExcellent.gif).

The button is the Asian lady, and she goes over the top to $125. It’s what I was waiting for, but not from Someone in position, and her whole demeanor was off. It went from angry to aggressive but calm. Hmph.

The table folds except for myself and the cutoff.

Flop. 7 K 9 rainbow.

Top pair, top kick, but I’m suspicious of the button. I check.

CO makes is $65

Button max raises all in $365

I tank. These two have been Terrible all night. CO has about $700 behind. If I’m behind the button, maybe I can get that $700 and cover the ~$500 I ship to the button, he doesn’t lay down if he has a piece. But I really didn’t like what I was seeing. I show the deal and the other side of the table and fold.

The loose player who has been stacking these other terrible players says, “I knew you were a nit, but Jesus.”

Run out comes Ace, King. I’d have had a boat.

CO shows King Rag.

The button shows AA.

I announce I laid down AK, and the table says I should have paid her off. One guy even said I should hand her the $365 😂. The other 3-5 next to us were also yelling at me. 🤷🏿‍♂️. After spending a few hours with this woman, I knew something was up.

I call it a night, and so does the loose dude. We go back and forth about the action. He thinks I should have stayed in, max-bet the turn and river, and hoped the loose dude raises one of the streets, and I would have made a profit. But I didn’t want to play that game.
