Where. Are. Fire. Pokemon

I live in a pretty average area in Ohio. Small town, grass pokemon and some water ones here and there. I really want to find Charmander and other fire pokemon but I can't seem to find any. I've read that gas stations are a spot for some but that doesn't seem right. Also I've heard they just spawn normally if you live in rural areas like this. I just want to know the truth behind fire pokemon and their spawn points.
