I've just got to level 5 and I want to be the very best (like no one ever was)

I have some questions:

Any tips or tricks?

Should I try and always have my starter in my team? (asking since it starts with (obviously) bad CP)

I have been told not to train or evolve Pokemon and save my resources until i reach a high level so i can get high CP Pokemon.

I've been doing the opposite and now I'm at level 5, should i start again using this efficient style playing?

If you haven't got any tips or tricks, do you know any good guides?

~~Which team should I join~~ -actually let's not go there.
