So I'm not a super active person. I only move when I feel forced to, or when my daughter wants to go on a walk. Pokemon Go has of course changed that, as it has for many of us I'm sure. However, I'm thinking that it's doing something for me that it may not for some other people.
I am about 275 pounds, up from 180 just a few years ago. After becoming a dad, I vowed I would lose weight, so I joined a gym but I just never worked out. I had no motivation. Even though I wanted to be in shape for my family, I just couldn't ever find time to get to a gym.
I went on walks with my family before the game came out, but never for longer than a couple blocks or so. Go comes out and I feel like I am working out even when I'm with my family. Since July 7th, when I joined, I've walked about 8 and a half miles each day, or about 20,000 steps. This is a big deal for me. I take my 2 year old daughter for walks in her wagon because she broke her leg a week ago and she loves going on long walks now. She even loves helping me catch the Pokemon (though she only throws one ball before she gets bored)!
Thanks Pokemon Go, for giving me the motivation to get up and move way more than I ever have before!
