The Distortion World is actually the future when almost all the stars have gone out and most of what's left in the universe are black holes. That's why in the distortion world always looks like it's swirling to the bottom. All matter and light is being sucked into a black hole. Giratina was punished for its violence by not being allowed to witness the universe at its time of beauty. Portals to the distortion world are time and space portals created by Dialga and Palkia used to banish Giratina. Dialga and Palkia are constantly manipulating time and space in order to keep Giratina from returning to the past. When Cyrus summoned the creation duo, not only did it take control and Palkia and Dialgas minds which allowed the portals to break giving Giratina limited access to Spear Pillar, but his plot to destroy the universe would have cost Giratina the existence of the world in the future. When you catch Giratina, it finally sets Giratina free in a way that maintains it's violence at a controllable level, but also allows it to experience the full beauty of the universe. Giratina has never been more grateful to a mortal in the eternity of its existence.
