Okay so I have to point out something that I noticed and see if anybody else had the same experienceâ
The audio has consistently been full and multi-layered throughout the series, allowing for a lot of deep listening and almost subliminal things to notice. Another thing I appreciated is the panning of different characters/Pokemon while moving on screen or being off-screen certain points during the anime. Season 6 had something unique about it centered around the PokĂ©monâs speech that I canât quite put my finger on, like with Corphish and the âTurning Over a Nuzleafâ episode when the Pokemon get separated. But the most serious thing I want to point out and ask about is this:
In Pokemon Journeys, maybe about halfway into season 23, I started noticing people talking in the background.. as I started focusing more on it, I kept hearing ashâs voice as well as Goh still talking and adding input into what was going on while the camera wasnât on them anymore.. specifically in ep 36 âmaking battles in the sandâ while fighting Flygon itâs like the sound engineerâs did what they did with people slightly off-screen or on the left or right of the screen.. because the battle was happening by Ash/Goh, I could still hear them talking to each other in the background while the focus wasnât on them.. comments about what was happening on-screen. This lasted for a span of many episodes as well as voices basically just discussing the show as if it was recorded in a room of friends sharing their thoughts with each other while they watched.
Now I realize it all /may/ have been a sort of audio hallucination, but Iâm not wrong about the audio track being next level meta.. something else I noticed around these episodes like 35 âGotta Catch a What?!â Was the Pokemon speech almost becoming clear English ??? Sounding as if an English translation was recorded and mixed in overtop of the Pokemon speech. Conceptually could be showing how deep the bond Ash has with the Pokemon had become (many people in this series comment on his ability to understand what theyâre saying). I canât remember an exact example, but this really stood out at one point in these episodes in the way the Pokemon voices are in the background of scenes with Pokemon playing/hanging out while the characters discuss something.
Please I would love to know everyoneâs thoughts on this subject.. whether you noticed similar stuff and if thereâs an actual answer to what exactly the audio engineers did with the complexity of the show to make it such a deep, complex, multi-layered experience.
More clear examples of what Iâm talking about in the comments, however if you have had a similar experience then you know what Iâm talking about!! Sort of hard to put into words, but a very serious and real topic for me :)
