So for context, I've just completed the main story so I don't actually know if the post game has anything similar, but Leon's champion battle was easily the hardest and most fun part of the entire game so far.
Not only do his Pokemon have moves to counter types they're weak against, but he actually uses those moves rather than just throwing out moves at random like a lot of other trainers seem to do. And his entire team was actually a higher level than mine - in fact he was the only trainer in the entire champion cup who was a higher level than me.
The battle against him was easily the most challenging one so far, and I would've lost if dynamax was permanent rather than only lasting for three turns. And looking at the fact that his team is almost 10 levels higher than Rose's, who is the last trainer you fight before Leon, it really seems like the game intentionally lets you over-level yourself to make Leon seem like he actually is unbeatable.
I get that the game wants us to feel as strong as Leon by the time we fight him, but I'd much rather have had all the champion cup battles be like Leon's - where the opponent is at least the same level as you, if not higher, and you actually have to think about how to beat them rather than just throwing out your most effective move and sweeping their entire team with one Pokemon.
Leon's battle was easily the most challenging and fun experience I've had in the entire game so far, and I wish that more of the story battles were like it.
