I'm the lead Pokemon staff member of one of the east coast's gaming major tournaments, that has recently branched out to include Pokemon X/Y into it's game lineup. Nintendo has offered to sanction our tournament and consider it a "Video-game championship series" tournament that can earn player points for other tournaments if we ollow the rules and format that they want us to use.

We are a little concerned by this. We intended to run the tournament as a single battle, 6v6 tournament following Smogon's standard rules as the majority of players we know play this style, and we ultimately want the largest turnout/most competitively viable tournament possible. I wanted to branch out and seek a more expansive userbase and poll you on this subject:

Do you prefer Smogon or VGC rulesets? Why?

EDIT: I appreciate everyone's time and opinions! I wasn't counting on this volume of responses and it is notable how much hate Smogon seems to get for very strange reasons.
