What games should I play to get into the mainline series?

I don’t really know how else to phrase it or if I needs to be rephrased at all but, that’s my question. What games should I play to get into the series? When I say get into, I mean, start playing as someone with little experience, and have fun to the point where I want to play more. Are there any games I should start with, is there anything I should know about those games BEFORE I start them, etc. Help is appreciated, thank you.
