So this question has been bugging me consistently since I decided to try out my hand at creating podfic – is it acceptable to use a voice changer over your recorded audio?
I ask this specifically because my voice, personally, causes me a great deal of dysphoria.
During a test run I did of a short one-shot, I used a voice filter over the audio to make my voice sound more masculine. It was pure euphoria — I listened to it over and over and over, and found myself intensely pleased by the tweak.
All of the recorded audio is still me — my words, pronunciations, pauses, inflections, and alternating volumes are still my own.
The only change is, essentially, the pitch of my voice.
So ultimately my question is, is this an acceptable thing to do?
If it is acceptable, do I need to necessarily disclose the fact that a voice changer was used? Or should I?
