I debuted my new history podcast, Literate History, over the weekend at Indy PopCon.
I realized that a history podcast focusing on the USSR was going to be a hard sell at a convention based on pop culture, and I was right. What I neglected to realize ahead of time, was that the podcasting stage was located in the food court, so most of the audience was filled with disinterested people that really just wanted to get their grub on.
Going forward, I think I really like the idea of a 'live performance' approach and I am currently looking for a long term home for the rest of season 1. However, I think this is the kind of thing that really needs to be in front of a more receptive and interested audience, as it's pretty difficult to soldier through an informative podcast when the audience is very obviously bored or disinterested.
However, I'd like your help assessing the overall execution of the subject matter, and I'm asking for some feedback. I've posted the first (technically second) episode on SoundCloud. It's only going to be there for the next two weeks during the 'beta' period.
There may be a second, or third, phase to the beta as I refine the approach and execution. If you want to be included in later phases please leave a comment below.
I skipped the 'pre-revolution Russia' episode because it would be an even harder sell for a general audience. I felt the dual revolutions would be a much more interesting topic for the convention.
