Hello! I've typically been a wrist watch guy, as much as an accessory to an outfit as for telling the time. Not really a collector, but a few for different styles and occasions. My brother recent got a pocket watch, and it's made me curious. I think there's occasions I'd really like a pocket watch.
I was wondering if you could help recommend some reputable brands or websites to look at for full hunter pocket watches that do mechanical winding for under, say, 120 dollars (and I wouldn't say no to something cheaper, if 40-70 would get me something decent.). I'm no expert or collector, I'm not looking for ornateness or rarity, I just want something simple and classic and works well with a touch of class.
Some preferences if that matters: Ideally with a plain or very lightly patterned/decorated cover. Might eventually engrave my initials or something. Nothing too stand out. I like steel or darker colors, gunmetal, maybe black, no silver or gold. I'm not sure on if I want any part skeleton or if I want a full face.
I'm leaning towards stem at 3, though I'm not completely ruling out stem at 12. Question for you all, do you hold the stem at 3 models with fingertips at the hinge and click the stem with your palm, or do you thumb click the palm or how does it being "sideways" work out for you.
I really do want mechanical winding. My favorite wrist watch is motion based self winding, but Id guess that's not too common in pocket watches. I actively like setting the time when putting on a watch, it helps me be mindful and really synchs me into the day. And I just love the peace of mind of no batteries, yes I know a lot can last years.
