Current state of filtering and lane-splitting in WA and OR (Not talking about legal status)

Hi PNW riders,

I'm trying to get a feel for how many people lane-split, and, more importantly, filter (on side streets) in WA and OR, and what police enforcement looks like.

In my city, Seattle, I actually see a lot of bikers lane-splitting on the freeway. I also see a lot of bikers not lane-splitting. On the side streets, I sometimes see bikers filtering, but it's again kind of a mixed bag. What I have heard anecdotally is that no one in the greater Seattle area is getting pulled over just for filtering. Riding on the shoulder will get you pulled over or warned, but filtering in heavy traffic seems to be tacitly allowed by the various police agencies in the area.

What are your guys' experience with lane splitting and filtering? Has anyone here had an experience where they've filtered or lane-split and gotten a ticket or a violation for it? Anyone filtered in front of a police officer and had no issues?

Thanks for your input!
