Full collapse near-death experience
Post Body

This is my first time writing here, but I just want to share what happened to me today.

I am a 23 year old male, with a history of pleurodesis on both sides and talc treatment every time after the first collapse.

Today I got admitted to the hospital for my seventh collapse. They gave me a drain, but it wasn't doing as much as they hoped, so they turned on suction.

For the entire duration that suction was on I couldn't breathe, and my skin turned bright red. I couldn't breathe in or out, while it felt like the air in both my lungs was actively being sucked out. I thought I would die if they didn't turn it off. After about 20 seconds they finally turned suction off because of my extreme reaction. I coughed uncontrollably for about 15 minutes succeeding the event. Every breath I took started a new wave of uncontrollable coughing.

They immediately requested x-ray and found that my completely collapsed lung had completely unfolded.

Usually it takes about 5-7 days for my lung to properly unfold, so this marks my fastest recovery by far. Even so, I would never repeat the near-death experience of the vacuum of my ogygen ever again.

Tl;dr - Had a full collapse and the doctor wanted to give my recovery a jump start, so they turned on suction. Suction almost instantly unfolded entirely, but left me unable breathe and took my oxygen away for the entire duration.

Thanks for reading the experience I had today. This is something I needed to get off my chest.
