Difference between PMO and gaming / internet / food?

My mind seems to be trying to rationalize the usage of PMO with the idea that even gaming and the internet is addictive. Also I didn't really understand the book's analogy to food. You need to eat food daily, this will not go away if you stop eating food.
Can someone explain?
