What are some different types of servers to play on?

I know I play on vanilla. But recently learned besides modded extra loot servers they had heli servers to practice and some battle arena style ones. What type of servers do you find useful for people just getting into the game? Also is there a server where I can spawn items to practice runs without loss? Sorry I just wanted to try taking on a heli or oil rig without losing an hour of craft time. Much appreciated :)
