I think my pitcher plant may have some sort of genetic malformation as the "hood" of the traps always grows over the pitfall so: a. It makes it very difficult for insects to fall in and b. No rain water can get in and so the insides of the traps are completely dry. (I found a massive group of spiders taking advantage of this. When I pruned one of the traps, I found about 20 alive spiders down there that were obviously sheltering from the cold but this also proves that the traps seem to be incapable of killing anything)
My question is, would it be okay to cut back the hoods so that the pitfall is more open, or would this kill the trap?
