A mouse got my wife's heirloom Christmas cactus, seeking advice

Post Body

My wife has had this Christmas cactus her entire life. We brought it into the garage to protect it from a frost, but a mouse ate all the leaves and chewed into the stem. This cactus has recovered from many mishaps, but the wife is worried this will be its undoing.

Is there any hope of this being able to regrow its leaves and survive?

If there is hope, what can I do to optimize the chances? Given the sentimental value, I'm willing to do anything no matter how specialized or expensive.
