Hello Everyone. This weekend I went to another Cup and decided to do another write up. I decided to play the same deck as last time: Decidueye/Ninetales. This cup was a little different as there were only 17 total players 13 were masters, so they only cut to top 4 instead of top 8.
Round 1: Decidueye/ninetales Mirror Lose
This guy was a really good player for being as new as he was. He did play some interesting cards in his deck such as atleast 1 max potion, a Hex maniac and a Bridgette. we traded back and forth and got pretty even on prizes. At one point I had like 200 damage on a Decidueye and he max potioned to deny the Ko. Then later in the game he had a well timed hex that put me a little behind on damage, that mixed with the early max potion messed with my math too much and I ended up scooping as there was nothing else I could do. 0-1
Round 2: Alolan Ninetales GX Win
I had actually played this girl before in another cup and knew she wasn't that great and that this would be an easy match. I was correct. We both set up kind of slow but I was able to get the pressure out early. I knew all I needed was to spread enough damage and then attack with Espeon EX. I ended up on one of my turns with 100 damage on her Shaymin Ex and 60 damage on her two Ninetales. I feather arrowed her shaymin for 2 prizes and then attacked with Espeon Ex for 2 more prizes taking 4 total prizes in one turn. on her last turn she benches a Manaphy Ex and N's me to 2 cards: shaymin Ex and Trainers' Mail. I had a fully stacked Decidueye on my bench so all i needed was a vs seeker or my second Lysander to get the Manaphy active and attack with Decidueye for game. I ended up playing the Mail first and hitting the Lysander off of it and moved the Manaphy active retreated espeon and and attacked with decidueye for game. 1-1
Round 3: Volcanion Ex Lose
This was a guy I had played before and knew he was a really good player and that he had been playing for a long time. before we started he mentioned how much Decidueye was there that day and said he was tired of the mirror so I assumed he was playing Decidueye, you should have seen my face when he flipped over baby volc. As soon as i saw his started I knew Ninetales was going to be my best friend. Luckily for me he was playing the Brooklet Hill version which is slower so I was able to set up faster. I started spreading Damage and attacking with Ninetales. It wasnt as much of an auto loss as I was thinking it was going to be. on his second to last turn he had 2 prizes left and I had 3 but I had 120 on his benched baby Volc and enough damage on his Turt GX that I could ko it with Ninetales. on his turn he hexed me and nitro tanked 2 energy on his Volcanion Ex. on my turn I needed an N but couldnt get one, So i ko'd the Turt to go to 1 prize. On his last turn he attached to the Volcanion ex and lysandred my Shaymin EX for game. 1-2
Round 4: Vikavolt/Tapu Bulu Win
Once again this was a guy that I have played before and he is a really good player (He travels with a guy who is trying for his invite). we sat down and he must not have been having a good day because as we were shuffling he said if he didnt get a good first hand he was scooping. he started double Bulu and passed. I got set up quick and on my 3rd turn I ko'd his first Bulu and he just scooped because there wasnt anything he could do. 2-2
Round 5: Greninja Break Win
This guy sat next to me during my first match so we knew what each other was playing. I have a really good Greninja match so I wasnt too worried, plus I knew he was a newer player. I dont really remember too much from this game but I pretty much just set up a couple decidueye and just swept through his board. 3-2
I didnt make top 4 but I did place 7th which isnt too bad I guess. I wish I could make it to Internationals next weekend but Due to having to pay for my wedding in a couple months I cant make it. So good luck to everyone at Internationals.
