Top 8 League Cup Report
Post Body

Hey everyone. Since people seem to be doing this I figured I should go ahead and do one too. This weekend I finally got to top 8 a cup! I went with my team and 2 of us ended up topping. For the event I decided to play Decidueye GX/Alolan Ninetales GX. Here were my matches and what i can remember of them:

Round 1- Alolan Ninetales GX Loss

This Guy was really good, he knew what to hit and when to hit it. I had to use Ninetales GX attack sooner than I would have liked, and still got KO’d next turn. I didn’t seem to be able to draw what I needed, but we got down to 2 prizes a piece and he sniped my damaged lele for game. Overall nice guy and a fun game. 0-1

Round 2- Volcanion Win

She started off with a mulligan and I saw fire and got a bit nervous. I knew I had to get Ninetales set up fast to hit weakness and start dropping arrows. Luckily for me she bricked hard and I didn’t and I swept her 6 prizes to 0. 1-1

Round 3- Metagross GX Win

This was a Friend of mine who is also on my team. . I set up really good, and he set up decent. I just kept the pressure on and killing his beldums and metangs with feather arrows and attacking with espeon EX. In the end he got one metagross set up but couldn’t get it powered up and I devolved for a knockout and game. 2-1

Round 4- Metagross GX Win

When I found out I was playing aginst Metagross again, I knew I needed to play it like the round before. Unfortunately I set up differently and I had to play Ninetales(I actively avoided it in the prior match because of weakness). I still played similarly dropping arrows on beldums and then attacking with Ninetales knocking them out as fast as he could bench them. I knocked out his last metang and got to two prizes and he scooped because there was nothing he could do. At this point I knew I was 3-1 and needed to win my next match so that I could ID round 6 and get food. I was determined

Round 5- Decidueye GX/Vileplume Win

This was a friend of my teams so I knew he was a good player. He went first and got set up good and got an early vileplume, but he wasn’t able to attach a float stone before evolving. I had 2 Decidueye and a active ninetales, so I started digging for Lysander to bring out the plume and start dropping more damage a turn than him. It took more turns than I would have liked but I finally got what I needed and he couldn’t keep up. This win put me to 4-1 and I felt comfortable taking an ID in the next round.

Round 6- ID

Everyone at the top tables decided to ID, So I went to get food and rest for a bit before top 8. I nearly pissed myself when they posted the standings after the round had finished, because one table decided to play it out and the guy I ID with got bumped to 9th so I made top 8 by the skin of my teeth. 4-1-1

Top 8- Decidueye GX/Vileplume/Techs Win-Lose-Lose

This guy seemed cool, but was kind of distracting during the match. Game 1 was a hale of feather arrows and spreading damage everywhere. He seemed to always have 3 decidueye so I could never get a ninetales set up. I got down to 1 prize and top decked the espeon ex and dce I needed to devolve and take my last prizes. Dude seemed irritated with me while we were shuffling for game two because he asked how much cp I needed for my invite and that’s when I told him I only had 15 cp total, and he seemed like he wanted me to just scoop and give him the match so he could get more points towards his invite and I said I was gonna play it out. Game two was pretty intense. I had to start Espeon ex so it got Ko’d early, luckily he never got plume set up so I knew I had access to my rescue stretcher when I needed it. We both got to 1 prize each and he had game the next turn. I stretchered for espeon but needed energy and a float stone and I just couldn’t find it, so I scooped and we went to game 3. Game 3 I got massacred and couldn’t find anything when I needed it and he always had what he needed.

In the end I placed 8th out of 46 masters and plan on taking the deck to another cup coming up in a few weeks. Aslo check out my Teams YouTube Channel at Teamscoop.net, where I may do a profile on the deck later this week.
