Updating with friends phone?

Long story short, I’m on iOS, but AirPod Pros kill my ears so I can’t use them. Bought Pixel Buds and trying to update them to latest firmware.
How does the update work? If I just find a friend with an Android phone will I be able to update them pretty easily? Could I even go to Best Buy or something and connect to a display device and update right there? Or is something that comes intermittently over the air in use?
