Pitbulls and Aural Hematomas (on ears)
Post Body

Ok so I don't know if anyone can help me out here. Anyway, I have a 5 1/2 year old female. She weighs about 40lbs - pocket pit. She likes to shake... like a lot. She shakes like she has just gotten out of the pool 50 times a day and has done this for years. She ended up giving herself a hematoma on the pinna of one of her ears about 2 months ago. We went to the vet and they examined her ears: no sign of infection, some mild irritation in the ear canal, no blockage or huge build up of wax or anything. Basically her internal ears were fine so they lanced it, drained it, and they did give me some ear wash to use a few times a week. $400 and we were on our way.

Ear healed well and it appeared things were headed in the right direction, but here we are: The hematoma is back, smaller but getting bigger as my girl continues to shake throughout the day. I have an ear wrap on order that gets delivered Saturday, but I am already seeing this is going to be an ongoing issue as hematomas recur often and my girl loves to shake (I think it is a nervous/anxious thing she does but who knows)

Does anybody else have a pitbull that loves to shake? Any advice on how to curb this behavior? Any experience w/pits and hematomas?
