Okay now let me preface this saying that my personal favourite song is different to what I believe to be the objective greatest. I believe that "time" is to put it simply the greatest song ever made, closely followed by echoes but thats not what this post is about.
I've talked to many pink floyd fans but yet ones who actually know the song are very few and far between, and I find it strange how the album as whole is generally skipped over and outshined in others eyes by meddle, despite it being arguably a little better imo. The song in question is "the gold it's in the..." and if you've ever listened to it you'll know which song it is as there isn't really any other pf song quite like it.
It's by far the most upbeat song they've made maybe with the exception of "San tropez" but thats not what makes it so great in my eyes, its the message that the song portrays. It may not be as nuanced or as deep as a song like "time" or "sheep" for example but its executed excellently and in a fashion thats hard to miss. Basically the song is about making with life what you can and not to focus on the end point too much to the point of feeling anxious or uneasy towards the future, but rather to enjoy the journey and the time you spend in the moment before it's too late, and I find it so relatable in a calming way rather than with the aforementioned "time" which brings on a sense of dread at times.
It's such a great listen and fills me with so much positive energy which as far as pink floyd goes is a rarity and every listen feels like my first listen, it's a great song that everybody can enjoy (even those who aren't fans of the band) and is something that everybody can take something positive from.
I feel that this song gets practically no recognition for what it is and if anybody reading this hasn't heard it yet I strongly urge you to give it a listen, especially with headphones ( and even better, outside in nature on a lovely day like I did for my first time, bonus points if you have a smoke beforehand also). And for those who have what are your opinions on the song and album as whole I'm curious to know what other fans think of what I regard as a top tier album.
