Nicknamed "The Home of American Golf," the Village of Pinehurst in Moore County is home to the world-renowned Pinehurst Resort, which hosted historic back-to-back U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open Championships in 2014, as well as the now-infamous 1999 U.S. Open.
Much of Pinehurst's central village was designed by Frederick Law Olmstead, architect of New York's Central Park, and as such has been named a National Historic Landmark District.
