Post Body

Premise: Listener stumbles upon a photo album full of pictures that showed how Christmas is celebrated in the Philippines and the Speaker tells them all about it.

hello hello! <3

i was gonna post this next week but it might be too late for christmas and posting this now might just be the right time.

i feel like this holiday21 script would be the best way to end my series of christmas-y scripts. this one is very close to my heart and i did my best to write about the things that make a Filipino christmas merry and happy. and as someone who likes to keep photos as remembrance for something significant, i figured the photo album style thingy would be good for a scenario like this. i even made a little remark about the titas who love snooping around.

and i also wrote some bits mentioning religion but it's there on the tags just so everyone knows.

here's a synopsis; it's short because i don't wanna give away the good stuff :')

Oh, it's that photo album that I take good care of.

That photo album is a collection of the best photos I took that showcases Filipino Christmas.

And simply about how us Filipinos celebrate Christmas.

In case you're wondering... Merry Christmas in Tagalog is “Maligayang Pasko.”

and there's limited tagalog in this but i'm not gonna let you wonder what the heck simbang gabi is or what on earth is a bibingka because i'm gonna provide some short description and maybe attach a photo below:

  • bibingka - is a food in the Philippines and is one of the many varieties of rice cakes in Filipino cuisine. its taste is usually slightly sweet, with a little bit of salty undertone for the contrast. it is also categorized as a kakanin, a collective term for foods made from rice or rice flour.
  • Philippine tablea or tableya - is derived from the Spanish word for tablet. it is also defined as roasted, ground, and molded nibs of fermented pure cacao beans without added ingredients and additives.
  • tsokolate (pronouced cho-ko-lat-eh) - is a simple beverage made by dissolving cacao tablets in hot water. it is lightly sweetened with sugar and sometimes served with a splash of milk (or cream).
  • pan de sal - it is a slightly sweet, soft and fluffy white bread roll that tastes amazing with salty cheese. best served fresh from the oven and usually eaten in the mornings alongside coffee or hot tsokolate.
  • puto bumbong - is a steamed purple rice cake that is commonly sold during the Christmas season in the Philippines. they are slathered with butter, topped with grated coconut, muscovado sugar, and sometimes, grated cheese or roasted sesame seeds, then wrapped in banana leaves.
  • ensaymada - is a type of Filipino soft, sweet dough pastry covered with butter and sugar then topped with lots of grated cheese.
  • champorado - is a sweet chocolate rice porridge made with sticky rice and tablea. the chocolate porridge is traditionally served for breakfast or midday snacks with a side of salted fish or tuyo to balance the sweetness with salty.
  • batirol - is a traditional wooden tool used to mix the drink before serving, as bits of tablea may sink to the bottom of the pot. a batirol is used by holding the handle between the palms of one's hands, then rubbing one's palms together.
  • simbang gabi - which means night mass, is a series of catholic masses in the Philippines during the nine days leading to christmas. there is a belief in the Philippines that if a person completes the masses in nine days, they could make a wish that will come true.
  • lechon - derived from a Spanish word for roasted suckling pig. is one of the most popular dishes in the Philippines. it is traditionally served whole on a platter, at celebrations and festive events such as weddings and christmas.
  • Filipino christmas ham - it is a fully cooked bone-in ham that is dry-cured, but modern variations include the use of a brine solution when curing the ham, such as the Filipino christmas ham. the popular ingredients included for the homemade Pinoy-style are sugar, salt, and pink curing salt for the brine solution and pineapple juice, mustard and some sugar for the glaze.
  • queso de bola - is Dutch Edam Cheese imported from Holland. it’s an extremely popular treat during the Christmas season. the large ball of cheese wrapped in red wax is a mainstay of the holiday feast table in the Philippines.
  • filipino spaghetti - is the Pinoy version of spaghetti with meat sauce. this version has a sweet tomato based sauce with lots of meat ingredients such as ground pork and hotdogs.
  • pancit guisado - is a Filipino noodle dish. It is also known as pancit bihon gisado. this dish is composed of rice noodles, shredded chicken, shrimp, and vegetables. the noodles are locally called bihon. the word guisado refers to the method used in cooking the dish. it simply means sautéed.
  • pancit palabok - is a noodle dish with shrimp sauce and topped with several ingredients such as cooked shrimp, boiled pork, crushed chicharon, tinapa flakes , fried tofu, scallions, and fried garlic.
  • lumpiang shanghai - it is the Filipino version of the egg rolls. it can be served as a side dish or as an appetizer. p.s. lumpia is a crowd favorite
  • leche flan - is a dessert made-up of eggs and milk with a soft caramel on top. it resembles crème caramel and caramel custard. this delicious dessert is known throughout the world. it has been a regular item in the menu of most restaurants because of its taste, ease in preparation and long shelf life.
  • buko salad - is the Filipino variation of the fruit salad, it is usually made out of mixed fruits, kaong, nata de coco, coconut, thickened cream and condensed milk.
  • parol or star shaped lantern - is a lantern made of bamboo and Japanese paper with a tail made of paper outside their windows. it also symbolizes that their home is open and ready to receive Jesus Christ (as we know the 9-day novena masses represents the 9 months Christ was in Mary’s womb).
  • belen - it is a representation of the nativity scene or the birth of Jesus Christ.
  • nangangaroling or caroling - children in small groups go from house to house singing Christmas carols, which they called pangangaroling. makeshift instruments include tambourines made with tansans or aluminum bottle caps strung on a piece of wire.

well... i hope i didn't i miss anything out but if i do, please let me know in the comments.
