Experience vent: Just took my first “mega reformer” class after practicing Classical for 9 months

The girl that was instructing took a weekend certification course after I investigated. The min requirement was that you’ve had to taken a Lagree/body rox class at least 20 times.

There was so many opportunities to get hurt in this class.

My observations:

  • The springs felt cheap. The hooks were made of toy plastic
  • There was no mention on how to safety get on or off the reformer.
  • no mention of how to properly engage your core
  • transitions felt awkward. The instructor talked to us as if we knew what we are all doing. She couldn’t get properly on the reformer and felt like she was winging it. It was like the blind leading the blind.
  • the “lead” student that was getting most of the shoutouts had really poor core control, and uneven hips and rushed through all the movements
  • weird forced “you can do this” mantras
  • overall just so many opportunities to hurt yourself

This was 8 students who have done Pilates once or twice before too. I would consider myself a beginner/intermediate Pilates student but I felt like I would never pay for course like this. This studio charges ~$250 a month but my studio is unlimited/class size is only up to 6 for $225 a month and both my instructors have 10 years of training each.
