Assistance requested with intermittent network connectivity
Post Body

Yesterday I started experiencing network connectivity issues on various devices, ultimately narrowing it down to the Pi-Hole. In short, connectivity to the Pi-Hole would drop for several minutes at a time, with network connectivity and access to the Pi-Hole (web GUI and ssh) eventually restoring. I can bypass the network connectivity issues by changing the DNS server on my phone, desktop, etc. to another server (e.g. 1.1.1.1)

Before these issues, I have not made any changes on the Pi-Hole until I started troubleshooting. The only changes I have recently made on the network is setting up an Unraid server, and it's currently running a Wireguard VPN (the Raspberry Pi is not connected to), Duck DNS to point VPN connections to the Unraid server, and Plex.

The current config is as follows:

Pi-Hole Hardware: Raspberry Pi 4 Model B (8GB)
  - Raspberry Pi OS (Bookworm) installed on m.2 SSD
  - Configured as DHCP server, pointing to Raspberry Pi as the DNS server
  - Running Unbound
  - Connected to switch via ethernet
  - Wi-Fi disabled
  - Static IP configured

Router: Nest WiFi Pro
  - DNS settings configured to point to Pi-Hole as DNS server
  - DHCP server cannot be disabled, so the following steps have been taken to ensure no IPs are issued by the router
     - DHCP pool configured to start and end with Pi-Hole's ip address
     - DHCP reservation configured for Pi-Hole's ip address
  - TCP & UDP ports 51820 forwarded to 51820 on Unraid server for DuckDNS
  - TCP port 33443 forwarded to 443 on the Unraid server for Unraid Connect remote access

Troubleshooting steps taken:

  • Switched USB-C power supplies for the Raspberry Pi
  • Moved Raspberry Pi's ethernet cable from one port to another
  • Swapped ethernet cable with another known good cable
  • Removed all port forwarding rules for Unraid server
  • Powered off Unraid server, rebooted Pi-Hole
  • Ran tests on m.2 SSD with no issues
  • Nuked the Raspberry Pi from orbit by doing a new install of Raspberry Pi OS, Pi-Hole, and Unbound

Any help would be appreciated!
