Pictures from the day of the attack

I found a wounded baby pigeon a few days ago. The birb was alone, some flesh from the head was missing (skull exposed) and the rest was loose, it's back was all skinned and there were a few more wounds in other spots, like his leg and his eyelid.

(If you want to know what happened check my other post, tldr: pigeon laid 2 eggs in my balcony. one day some magpies attacked)

The vet that was on Sunday duty was inexperienced, I had to go back the next day because the bandage she put on his back was loose. This experienced vet surgeon did some stitches on his head because of the loose parts and put some silver scar-heal inducing thing. More stitches to attack some pad to his back so the skin can regenerate. Changed meds dosages, added an antibiotic eye drop for the damaged eye, changed food (from bird and small reptile recovery formula to baby cereal formula) and upped the amount.

Idk what he weighs now but 2 days ago it was 160g and the guy told me to feed him 12ml of the formula 4times a day. He is much louder now and stronger.

Anyway, now the questions. First I'll state that I'm not against Western/allopathic medicine all the time. Herbs don't do surgery, raw foods don't perform CPR, etc. It has it's place, I value it and take medicine myself (Vyvanse) to get going.

But I do see that it's favored over the herbs/holistic thing. Antibiotics are overused and that can harm the immune system, making it hard to build a strong bacterial presence. Isolated chemicals are used and in many scenarios some specific food or natural preparation would serve better without the collateral strees that chemicals tend to induce in the body to clear them out and deal with the side effects.

If I was told to cure the birds internal bleeding with some herb and raw food, I'd be critiquing "alternative" medicine as well, btw.

  • Anyway. I'm giving the little guy an antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory every 12 hours. Does he really need it? For how long? I've been reading on forums that birds with weakened bodies from too much medicine are the ones that tend to get infected and die, while the more natural one's got strong bodies and immune systems. If I stop giving it will he get one of his open wounds infected and die?

  • Apparently pigeon crop milk has little to no carbs, just protein and fat. Why does the food the vet gave me have so much carbs? I know it's not so bad as giving it solid foods rn or coca cola, but still I'm puzzled. I'm giving it egg yolk mixed with the formula solution

  • Is there some guide about raw and holistic pigeon care?

  • when will the bird stop needing the heating pad? When fully feathered?

  • does the eye need the antibiotic drop?

  • is a curved shape important for the bedding/nest or should I be more concerned with providing a surface that allows him to grip with his legs?

  • any advice about stuff I haven't asked is more than welcome too
