I'm thinking about removing my nipple piercings. Any advice?

Hi there :) I've hae my nips pierced since about August. I loved them, and they healed quite decently. But lately I'm just feelijg like removing them. I've been feeling very disconnected from my nipples and I'm not sure if I like having jewellery shoved through them. I had my first sexual experience since getting them recently and I just dont like how nipple play feels now.

Anyway sorry for the rant, is there anything I need to do before or after I remove them? Can I just remove them myself? Thanks :)
