A question about stretched ears shrinking (x-post r/stretched)

I have a size 00 in one ear and in the other a 00, a 2, and a 4, and I've had these for around a year now. I have friends that can leave theirs out for days and put them back in with no problem, but when I leave mine out (have to for work) for more than about 10 hours, they'll shrink up so much I have to put a size down and restretch the next morning. I have a feeling it's because they were pierced and stretched improperly and too fast (stupid uneducated teenage decisions), but I was wondering if there was anything I can do to make this less of a problem?
