can you downsize with irritation bumps?

I have had nipple piercings for about 3 months now and even with care, they have had irritation bumps that change in size but never completely go away. I think one issue maybe be the length of my bars.. they are very long and a bunch of issues come from it. Just the other day I was holding my phone to my chest and when I went to put it back down the edge of the phone somehow got between the piercing and my chest and pulled on it!! Ow!!

I know I probably need to downsize, can I do that whole having bumps??
