Retire piercing myself or go to shop

Post Body
I have a traigus piercing that is over two years old but it just isn't straight. The jewelry / back almost but doesn't quite sit flat against the skin. It's not a problem most of the time but I wear earplugs for shows and every time I put them in it's painful and leaves the piercing agitated and sore all the next day. I was just putting up with it for a while but I'm tired of it and I'm going to retire the piercing. Is it fine to just take out or should I go see a piercer in town and have them do it?
