Never thought I’d be one to make a “is this an irritation bump or k-word post” but my daith journey has been quite a trip. I got it pierced 4 months ago at a very reputable shop in my city. It started getting irritated and one grew a large (normal looking) irritation bump that started leaking gross fluids last month. I went back to to see the shop to get it checked in case it was an infection, and the piercer drained it and switched the jewlery to prevent it from moving, said it was just irritation. Cue this week and this bump just ballooned in size to a point where i know this doesn’t look normal at all. Went to the shop again and they said to continue soaks/saline. For my peace of mind I went to a different shop to get another opinion because this bump is starting to give k word. The piercer immediately looked at it and just said derm asap, and to remove the jewlery. Wouldn’t even touch it cause they don’t want to be liable (understandable) but now I’m just really frustrated because of how much money i’ve spent on this and possibility of scarring which could be attributed to how the irritation was originally handled. I have an appointment with a dermatologist tomorrow morning and I’m considering whether to remove it now or wait. I’ll follow up with an update but kind of just here to share this experience and if anyone has had a similar one please share for my peace of mind (or not lol).

Side note, I have other piercings and never scarred or had a k word like this so I just assumed this couldn’t possibly happen to me but alas.

FWIW, I had horrible issues with irritation bumps on my daith until I switched to a clicker ring. Even though I was pierced with a “high quality” pricey earring, the edges of the continuous ring seemed to be snagging my ear at the seam. The bumps (and pain) went away within about a week of having the clicker :)
