LITHA or listen to piercer’s advice for bump?
Post Body

Sorry, I’m adding another bump post to this sub!

Got my nose pierced nearly three months ago. Was fine for the first two months, then I caught it on a sweater (very lightly, no pain). Got a really small bump right afterward. Snagged it really hard on a pillowcase of all things a week after that. Lots of blood, very painful. Developed a huge bump after that about a month ago. Saw a piercer to check on it after it just kept getting bigger. She said to use Dr Bronner’s castile soap 1-2 times a day, spray it with the normal saline solution 2-3 times a day. She suggested the castile soap because she said it would help dry it out.

It decreased in size and the scab from the snag along with some loose skin fell off while cleaning it with the soap about two weeks ago. Then I went in for another check up and she suggested using crushed up aspirin paste (baby aspirin so it wouldn’t have the coating on it). I’ve tried to leave it alone besides that, but I’ll admit I’ve been a bit harsher than I should when it comes to removing the dead skin on it.

The only other thing I’ve done outside of the piercers advice was using a blow dryer (cool air) once I’m done cleaning it, showering, etc.

It doesn’t seem to be improving much though. It’s been a month and it’s making me so self conscious and it’s still HUGE! I’m also concerned because all the other bumps I’ve seen (they all look super red or pus-filled) don’t look like mine and I’ve never come across the Dr Bronner’s suggestion before. I’ve also heard aspirin can be harmful. Has anyone else been recommended these treatments? How long did it take for your bump to go away? Should I just LITHA and ignore the piercers advice?

I also haven’t been able to get it downsized yet because of the bump, but because the bump is really consistent and doesn’t hurt, bleed, or leak pus I’m wondering if the jewelry could now be the cause of irritation since it’s been a while since the snag. Should I insist on downsizing it?
