Pico rail network will use a form of carbon. It is important to realise that, while being compatible with the CARBON network, pico rail network does not use the same redstone (we use comparators in place of pistons) and some addresses will vary.
Having said this if you connect to the pico network with the pico addresses for a location off the CARBON network you will be routed correctly to your destination and the address will be converted at the bridging point between the two networks. Likewise this will function in the opposite directions where connecting to the CARBON network with the CARBON address will get you routed correctly.
Pico is based at (-1500, 0) and will form the middle of the pico network. Under the central build in pico is a "loop" or carbon tech that will redirect any incoming traffic to the correct output. the central point of this is actually (-1499, -19).
From the "loop" there will be 4 main lines, N, S, E, W. with each line supporting 8 addresses.
- The north line will address three local pico stations and 5 cities in the NW area including the portal city.
- The south line will address for 3 local pico stations and 5 cities in the SW including the portal city.
- The East line will address for 8 destinations on the CARBON network including spawn.
- Finally the West line will connect to Pico main station, two underground stations at mob grinders and 5 cities including the west portal city.
Any city that wishes to add a smart (Carbonised) line to the pico network will gain the benefit of being able to directly connect to all other pico destinations including direct access in and out of our grinders and other public resources. I would strongly recommend and hope that all cities in the West will join the pico network.
Pico network vs CARBON. The only downfall to joining just the pico network over the carbon network is you will not be able to access all 32 destinations on the CARBON loop. Pico rails aims to connect to as many useful destinations as possible (aiming to have 23 city connections) and any address not included are likely to be on the far side of the map (easy access through the nether). It is possible to connect to both networks (though more work) but my hope is that the pico network will help all cities in the west to connect efficiently together while still being about to utilise the extremely useful carbon network. If your city is interested in joining the Pico rail network of the west then please comment below. Please leave any questions below or ask one of the pico network engineers in game or in mumble.
