What are your favourite theory books to use with students? Generally up to age 12 or so, beginner to late elementary.
I've taught for about 20 years and I'm a big proponent of theory work. I end up often using Piano Adventures books, but sometimes use Hal Leonard, Dr Mozart, occasionally UMT, RCM or Sarnecki.
My students enjoy working through theory concepts at the piano, but they find most books a bit dull. The exercises don't feel like they connect with actual music, they're repetitive, and either too cartoonish or too dry.
What are your go-to books?
